Facial veins are tiny blood vessels usually seen on the nose, cheek or chin where skin is much thinner than the rest of the body. They are a common condition in both men and women; they occur more as we age and are especially noticeable if you have fair skin.
Facial thread veins don’t affect your health, but they can make you feel very self-conscious. At Vein MD, we can easily treat the problem in a straightforward walk-in, walk-out procedure to improve your appearance with lasting results and help you regain your confidence and feel like ‘you’ once again.
Facial veins – also known as small spider veins, broken capillaries, or facial telangiectasia – have no single obvious cause. They appear just under the skin’s surface on the face as tiny red, purple, or blue threads, or as a patchy area up to a few millimeters in size, or even as large bluish veins.
Genetics: a history of facial thread veins in your family can play a role in your likelihood of developing them too.
Hormonal changes: for example, during puberty, if pregnant or on the contraceptive pill because increased estrogen hormones can cause vein walls to thin. Changes during menopause can also lead to facial thread veins, which can be more noticeable during hot flushes.
Sunlight: exposure to UV rays can break down collagen in our skin more quickly and lead to broken blood vessels.
Aging: skin becomes thinner and underlying veins become more visible.
Medical conditions: severe vomiting or intense sneezing can cause tiny facial blood vessels to break. Many clusters of these could be a sign of liver disease.
Alcohol: excessive consumption causes blood vessels to enlarge, resulting in flushed skin. This is often called ‘drinker’s nose’.
Facial veins are a cosmetic concern, not a medical one, but they can become a nuisance if they make you feel embarrassed or self-conscious.
Even though facial vein removal treatment is a cosmetic procedure, it is important that laser treatment is conducted by a qualified practitioner.
At Vein MD, we take a holistic approach in assessing your condition, identifying your concerns, and providing the ideal treatment plan with the highest standards of technology and clinical care. You will receive a detailed consultation by a vascular surgeon (which is free of charge).
Please don’t hesitate to ask about anything you’re unsure of: we want you to always feel completely comfortable and at ease, knowing that you’re in expert medical hands.
At Vein MD, facial veins can be removed safely and effectively – with minimal downtime – by state-of-the-art laser treatment. Sessions are quite quick, taking around 15 minutes. You may need three to four treatment sessions to see the best possible results.
Please be aware of the importance of having laser treatment conducted by a qualified practitioner. We will take you through all the details of the procedure, recovery, potential outcomes, and cost in full at your initial consultation.
